Moses 3-5

The purpose of this blog is to serve as a vessel for my thoughts on the scriptures. I am determined to read the Standard Works of the Latter-day Saints with care and thought. For the past few years, I have not recorded my impressions with regularity. Elder Scott, an Apostle of the Church, counsels us to record those impressions diligently. I have not decided how to keep from tossing "pearls before swine," or in other words, disclosing personal, sacred insights, but I will resolve that problem eventually.

A secondary purpose of this blog is to help those friends of other faiths understand how a lay member of the LDS Church understands his relationship to Christ, God the Father, the Church, and the world around me. Another Apostle, M. Russel Ballard, has encouraged members to use new media to discuss the Church. I resisted that idea; however, I believe the advice will help.

My posts will most likely track the Sunday School curriculum for the year. This year, we are studying the Old Testament. Portions of the lessons come from the Pearl of Great Price, a collection of revelations Joseph Smith received. Notable among them are the Old Testament era books of Moses and Abraham.
